The "American Democracy" art exhibition by PSJM opened today at Building Bridges Art Exchange located in Bergamot Art Center in Santa Monica, California. PSJM is an art collective formed by artists Cynthia Viera and Pablo San Jose´, who are originally from Spain, and are now based in the Canary Islands. They present themselves as an “art brand” or "art collective", and define this as appropriating the procedures and strategies of advanced capitalism to subvert their symbolic structures.

The "American Democracy" exhibition features an installation of 59 paintings that have been painted to display the U.S. presidential election results each year in a geometric format. They refer to this as "social geometry", a field within artistic abstraction painting that can provide a visual history of events in a painterly manner. The research for the project was rigorous, a project where infography and American color-field painting tradition came together with a sociological study and critical reflection.

The team-brand has been included among the 100 most representative artists of International Political Art in Art & Agenda: Political Art and Activism, (Berlin: Gestalten, 2011). The works of PSJM have been shown in numerous international exhibitions such as Beyond the Tropics, in the context of 56th Venice Biennale (2015), Hic et Nunc, Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C. (2014), One Shot!, Museu Brasileiro da Escultura, São Paulo (2014), Off Street, A Foundation, London (2009), The Real Royal Trip… by the Arts, PS1-MOMA, New York (2003, in collaboration with El Perro y Aitor Méndez), and others in Spain: Prophetia, Fundación Miró, Barcelona (2015) or PIGS, Artium, Vitoria (2016).
