Updated: May 27
May 24, 2024 - The acclaimed movie 'Sight' was released to theaters nationwide on May 24th, 2024 by Angel Studios with a grand welcoming party at the AMC Theaters in Times Square in New York City. Starring Greg Kinnear and Terry Chen, 'Sight' follows the true story of Dr. Ming Wang, an immigrant from China, who defied the odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States. Showcasing his struggles and unwavering determination to succeed, he finds his way to attend Harvard and MIT (M.D., PhD.), helping develop an innovative technology that restores sight in millions.
"'Sight,' is a serious movie," stated Dr. Jeannie Yi (Dr. Yi Jinsheng), Executive Producer of Family Film Awards on CBS, "a movie that mixes tears and laughter with a deep sense of humanity and final triumph! 'Joy Luck Club' moved the world for its terror of war and the survival spirit; thirty years later 'Sight' does just the same - it moves the world with the same intense power of sacrifice and uncrushable human spirit, yet through a different kind of story and story setting." An avid supporter of the film, Dr. Yi, has worked diligently to bring mainstream and international recognition for the film.
Writer/Director Andrew Hyatt has said of the film in a press release: “I am humbled and thrilled to be a part of bringing Dr. Wang's incredible true-life story to the screen. The universal themes of hope and endurance will undoubtedly resonate with audiences around the world. My grandmother grew up in Shanghai and to be able to honor her in some way by telling a story that echoes her own experience is a very special opportunity.”
“Rarely have we seen the strength and resolve of Chinese-Americans shown in a powerful way on the big screen,” said Fischer in a press release. “After spending years bringing 'Sight' to life, Angel Studios is the perfect partner for audiences who want to be inspired by Dr. Wang’s story of hope, perseverance, and freedom.”
“When the film 'Sight' was brought to the Angel Guild, it received an incredible amount of support. Our audience resonates with true stories of everyday heroes,” said Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer of Angel Studios, in a press release. “We are confident that this story will encourage all who experience it and help spur a movement to help others, and are honored to release the film during Asian Heritage Month.”
A reviewer on IMDB stated, "This true, moving story was so beautifully filmed and the acting was superb. Angel Studios just keeps hitting home runs! The movie had me in tears more than once. We need more movies which inspire, stir our souls, and make that human connection. We don't all have the same experiences, but human emotions are common to us all and it benefits everyone to share in these true stories of dedication, love, overcoming trials and injustice, perseverance, and triumph. Bonus: stay to the very end and see video of the REAL doctor and actual old photographs of the characters you got to know during the course of the movie!"
