Alhambra, California, USA. November 18th, 2022. The Elite Performing Arts Group USA launched its first immersive musical performance, since the pandemic, called "Waking Dreams," at the Granada LA, in Alhambra, California. The musical featured over 40 professional dancers, singers, actors, and other performers. "Waking Dreams" presents a thought-provoking song and dance drama that incorporates philosophy as its central theme. The venue was a performance hall rather than a traditional theater, allowing the audience to view the performance at a closer distance, giving them the opportunity to participate and immerse themselves into the performance. The design of the venue allowed the audience to come on stage and experience the unique three-dimensional space of "waking and dreaming."

The audience enjoys the performance
"Waking Dreams" is a new type of contemporary song and dance drama that travels through time and space. It breaks away from the traditional theater stage, allowing the audience to be in the performance space and experience this fast-paced Eastern and Western classic immersively! With the integration of Chinese cultural heritage and modern atmosphere, the dream world and the reality of reality are intertwined, highlighting that individuals, nature, and the universe are one. This is also reflected in the essence of Chinese Taoist philosophy: Heaven, earth, myriad things are one with me, everything is one, because I am one with everything.

Maojun Liao, Professor of Chinese Culture
The play takes Zhuangzi's philosophy of "Equality of Things" as the core, starting from the theme of Zhuangzi's dream of butterflies, and travels through ancient and modern times from the perspective of butterflies in Zhuangzi's dream - from the Warring States period of 400 BC to the contemporary society in 2022. It takes both vertical and horizontal perspectives, with Eastern and Western historical figures in different periods and regions showing the characteristics and commonalities of human nature.

The whole play presents a coherent story line in 20 scenes, with performances that are exciting and thought-provoking. Such a new type of song and dance drama that is immersive is not only unprecedented in the Chinese circle, but even if you look around the world, you rarely see the same type of drama. There are more than 20 scenes in the whole play that cleverly connect Eastern and Western philosophies, dreams, reality, soul and life.
