"A Valentine's Day for One" - A Poem

I wrote this poem on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2019, to commemorate the 98th anniversary of Eileen Chang's birth. Eileen Chang (1920-1995) was a popular Chinese writer who came to the United States after the 1949 Revolution and lived here until her death. Many of her stories have been made into films: “Red Rose, White Rose” by Stanley Kwan, “Love in a Fallen City” by Ann Hui and “Lust, Caution” by Ang Lee. I have been inspired by Eileen Chang's writing for many years. The magic and beauty of her words are so memorable to me, and continue to mentor my own writing. In this poem, I am honoring her life and summoning up her spirit!
Gray clouds, misty rain,
Standing still is a perfect break;
No sorrow, no complaints,
A smile is a remembrance that can be forgotten.
Beyond the hill, the tombstone remains,
The funeral 28 years ago revived the vow;
If the rain stops,
Can the dream continue?
If the shadow drinks the wine dry,
Can the smile walk into the abyss of the dream?
